Faculty Of Arts
Founded in 1898 as the Central Hindu College, the Faculty of Arts at Banaras Hindu University is its oldest and largest faculty. Known as the ‘Mother Faculty’, it remains the nucleus of BHU, offering diverse humanities, professional, and vocational programs across 23 departments in language, culture, philosophy, and more.
Institute (Faculty) Of Agriculture
Established in 1931 as India’s pioneering institute for postgraduate agricultural education, it evolved into the Faculty of Agriculture in 1968 and was elevated to an autonomous Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 1980. It encompasses diverse departments, boasts extensive research farms, dairy, horticultural units, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Faculty Of Social Science
Established in 1971 after bifurcation from the Faculty of Arts, BHU’s Faculty of Social Sciences encompasses five key departments—Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology—alongside five research centers including Peace Studies and Women’s Studies, offering a robust blend of undergraduate, postgraduate, and specialized programs.
BHU Swimming Pool
Banaras Hindu University provides a well-maintained swimming pool facility known as Taran Taal Swimming Pool, managed under the University Sports Board (USB). The pool is primarily used for swimming, diving (men & women), and men’s water polo.
BHU GYM
Banaras Hindu University has a well-equipped gymnasium facility known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Gymnasium, managed under the University Sports Board (USB). It is open for both students and staff and is a central part of the university’s sports infrastructure.
BHU Amphitheatre
The Amphitheatre (Amphi-Theatre Ground) is located within the main sports complex of BHU. It is a large open-air space primarily used for:
Cultural programs, Sports ceremonies and outdoor events
